I. BACKGROUND
Clean Air Asia is an international non-governmental organization leading the regional mission for better air quality, and healthier, more livable cities throughout Asia. Our mission is to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in Asia and contribute to the development of a more sustainable, equitable and healthier region. Clean Air Asia is one of the implementing organizations of the Integrated Urban Climate Action for Low-Carbon and Resilient Cities (Urban-Act) project in the Philippines, together with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC), and the project’s political partner, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The Urban-Act Project supports the transformation towards low-carbon and resilient urban development in the Philippines, India, Thailand, China, and Indonesia. It aims to contribute to implementing the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. This will be done at the country level by addressing enabling conditions and development of frameworks with a focus on technical services, cross-sectoral and multi-level coordination, and incentives for urban climate action and; at the city level, strengthening of the capacities of cities for mainstreaming climate change into urban development and in supporting the development of climate-sensitive urban development plans.
Clean Air Asia is looking for interns interested in sustainable urban planning and climate action to support the Urban-Act Project and its output areas. The internship is suitable for those with a background in sustainable transportation, urban and transport planning, policy analysis and public administration, environmental studies or other related disciplines. The internship shall give practical experience on these topics while contributing to Clean Air Asia’s goal of improving policy, building capacity and informing for action.
II. SCOPE OF WORK
Under The Direct Supervision Of Clean Air Air’s Urban Planning Specialist, The Intern Will Support The Urban-Act Project Implementation By
- Assisting in relevant systemic data collection through researching, reviewing, compiling and analyzing relevant national and international policies, frameworks, guidelines, and programs related to urban planning, transport planning, and climate action
- Performing file management and organization in relation to all data generated from the data collection
- Participating in and documenting meetings by preparing meeting notes and updating of the project’s meeting logs
- Supporting in pre- and post- stakeholder/project partner engagements which includes tasks such as designing, drafting, completion and finalization of workshop activities and necessary reports
- Drafting, completing, and finalizing of project-related documents such as project narratives, progress, and technical reports
- Perform other tasks that may be assigned by the supervisor or project team
Iii. Eligibility Requirements And Criteria
- A graduate or student with formal training and coursework in urban and transport planning, climate change, policy analysis and public administration, sustainable transportation, or environmental studies. A strong interest in these fields is ideal.
- Has experience in using GIS software to conduct climate and disaster risk assessment
- Able to demonstrate excellent research and report writing skills (kindly include a sample of written work in the application)
- Proficient in data collection and consolidation and analysis
- Has demonstrated strong communication skills, both written and oral.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
IV. REMUNERATION
Clean Air Asia offers a modest allowance and flexible time schedule during the internship period but does not fund international travel or provide accommodation for the accepted intern. The internship is on a hybrid setup (face-to-face/on-site reporting and remote/work-from-home).
