Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Job Summary

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy construction and industrial equipment. This role ensures equipment operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues on heavy equipment.
• Perform repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, and drivetrains.
• Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems (pumps, valves, cylinders, hoses).
• Conduct preventive maintenance and routine inspections.
• Read and interpret schematics, service manuals, and diagnostic data.
• Use computerized diagnostic tools and OEM software.
• Weld, fabricate, and perform minor machining as required.
• Test equipment after repairs to ensure proper operation.
• Maintain accurate service records and maintenance logs.
• Follow safety procedures and company policies at all times.
• Perform field service repairs at job sites as needed.

• Cranes, forklifts, compact equipment

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a technical program in diesel or heavy equipment mechanics preferred.
• 2+ years of experience as a heavy equipment or diesel mechanic (experience level may vary).
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Valid driver’s license (CDL is a plus for field service roles).
