Job Summary:
The main objective of the position is to lead the team in managing and strategizing energy and ancillary dispatch, bids and offers of all WESM registered Plants of MGen, ensuring dispatch protocol obligations are met and compliance to Energy Trading Market Rules are observed. The role shall require proficiency in technical, regulatory, and commercial aspect of the power industry to come up with decisions and recommendations in Energy Trading to consider its impact to MGen's business interest.
The role shall cover trading on the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market, Retail Market, Reserve Market and Renewable Energy Market.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
WESM Energy Market
- Reviews performance of Energy Trading Operations in real-time WESM Energy Market and creates action plans on improvement of revenues, processes, systems.
- Evaluates market rules and manuals that will impact Energy Trading and recommends necessary action items, in coordination with Regulatory Department.
- Leads coordination with internal stakeholders (e.g., Plant Operations, TSD, FMD) and external stakeholders (e.g., IEMOP, Meralco ESO, CEBCO Trading) on matters related to plant dispatch and operations.
Ancillary Services and Reserve Market
- Reviews performance of Energy Trading Operations in Ancillary Services and Reserve Market.
- Creates action plans on improvement of revenues, processes and systems related to Ancillary Services and Reserve Market.
- Leads coordination with internal stakeholders (e.g., Plant Operations, TSD, FMD) and external stakeholders (e.g., IEMOP, Meralco Delta, NGCP) on matters related to ancillary services and reserve operations.
Market Operations Compliances
- Acts as WESM Enforcement Officer and participates in public consultations, conferences, and forums to put forward business interest of the company on rules that will affect Energy Trading and its compliance requirements.
- Reviews Trading Management and Trading Operations’ performance on conformance to WESM rules and creates improvement plan to minimize non-compliances.
- Coordinates with internal stakeholders to ensure full compliance to market rules.
Energy and Ancillary Services Agreements’ Compliances
- Reviews conformance to Operating Protocol and best practices of Power Supply Agreements, Retail Electricity Supply Contracts and Ancillary Services Procurement Agreements.
- Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure full implementation of MGP Agreements.
Trading Strategy Implementation
- Creates timely decision on market bids and offers, customer nominations, ancillary services nominations, and other options available to optimize Energy Trading gross margin.
- Implements new Energy Trading optimization plans.
Market Evaluation and Surveillance
- Reviews market trends through data-driven analysis as well as in-house, technical, and economic models.
- Creates market risk management plans.
Commercial Operations of Conventional Strategy
- Evaluates and reviews capabilities of Conventional Technologies (e.g., Coal, Diesel) with highlights on real-time sale of electricity considering technical and regulatory environment.
Commercial Operations of Renewable and Emerging Technologies
- Evaluates and reviews capabilities of Renewable and Emerging Technologies (e.g., Solar, Wind, Battery) with highlights on real-time sale of electricity considering technical and regulatory environment.
Position Requirements (Basic Qualifications)
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Completed Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics and allied courses
- Professional License in Engineering (or certification for non-PRC regulated profession)
- At least 5-year of work experience as Energy Trader, Trading Analyst with hands-on experience in WESM Market Management System; or
- At least 8-year of work experience in the Electric Power Industry preferably in a capacity requiring familiarity with the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA), the Philippine Grid and Distribution Code, the WESM Rules, the ERC Rules related to Retail Competition and Open Access, and Renewable Energy Act
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency with spreadsheet and programming
- Working knowledge in Technical and Commercial tools preferred (e.g., Plexos, I-pool, PSSE, R, Python, Matlab) and other analytical software
